When it comes to comfort food, nothing compares to a classic lasagna. My ultimate version features multiple layers of deliciousness that are sure to impress. Start by preparing a large oven dish measuring 35 x 24 x 7 cm (5.5 litres) and lay down a base of lasagna sheets. Next, add a generous layer of rich Bolognese sauce.
As a cheese lover, I make sure to include a hearty amount of Parmesan and mozzarella in the next layer. To ensure the lasagna is creamy and indulgent, I add some ricotta cheese. Finish it off with a luxurious béchamel sauce and a sprinkle of fresh basil leaves for that extra burst of flavour. Repeat this layering process four times, but be sure to save some space for one final layer of lasagna sheets and more cheese.
Once baked, this lasagna will have a beautifully crispy exterior and a wonderfully soft, cheesy interior that’s simply irresistible.
Ingredients
- 250g lasagna sheets
- 600g Bolognese sauce
- 150g grated Parmesan cheese
- 300g grated mozzarella cheese
- 250g ricotta cheese
- 500ml béchamel sauce
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
How to Make Béchamel Sauce
Béchamel sauce is a key component of this dish. While you can certainly buy a pre-made version, making it from scratch is far superior and quite simple! Start by melting 50g of butter in a saucepan, then whisk in 50g of plain flour. Gradually add 500ml of milk, stirring continuously until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. To enhance the flavour, mix in 50g of grated Parmesan and a pinch of nutmeg. It’s utterly divine!
